Jonas is the Head of Business Development at Mariestad municipality and will be sharing the learnings from the success story that is the ElectriVillage, a venture that involves the development of sustainable transport and energy systems in their biosphere reserve.
What is ElectriVillage?
ElectriVillage includes the first solar powered hydrogen refuelling station in the world, and through it Mariestad is working to meet climate goals such as the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 on a fossil-independent vehicle fleet, and the Paris Agreement. There is currently no other model region in the world that exhibit a combination of sustainable transport and energy systems like the one of ElectriVillage.
Through investments in ElectriVillage, Mariestad has created new business opportunities for local companies, and also for companies from other geographic locations to establish their business in the city. Their new university platform, DaCapo, is working to develop programmes in sustainable transports and environmental technology to meet critical skills needed in the future, and to ensure local high quality competence. ElectriVillage consists of three areas: 1. Renewable energy systems 2. Sustainable transport systems 3. Logistics and purchasing
The key purpose is the creation of conditions for societal development with new business opportunities, new jobs and increased attractiveness for the city. Mariestad is a prime example of how a relatively small municipality can lead change with innovative thinking and then simply acting on it.
